At the Consumer Electronics Show 2024, Sennheiser introduced the world's first TWS earbuds capable of measuring users' heart rate and body temperature sensors. Even though these technologies have been around for a while, integrating them into a tiny earbud that fits in the ear is a remarkable feat of engineering.

THE Sennheiser Momentum Sport features “a photoplethysmographic (PPG) heart rate sensor and a body temperature sensor that can each transmit critical data to popular fitness apps and devices.” Users can pair the earbuds and share the data they collect with popular fitness-related apps like Apple Health, Garmin Connect, Strava, Peleton, and more.

The Momentum Sport also features Polar's elite biosensing and data analysis capabilities. However, they only send body temperature information to that particular app. According to several reports, the live demonstration of the product at CES 2024 was flawless and the earbuds worked like a regular smartwatch that measures heart rate without any issues.

In addition to the heart rate and temperature sensor, the Momentum Sport features a new 10mm driver that produces “vivid sound and an impressive base.” The headphones also feature a semi-open design that allows users to be aware of their surroundings. What is unique, however, is the Acoustic Relief Channel which alleviates the occlusion effect and also helps reduce breathing/stepping noises and “other body-based distractions”.
IP55 rating, impact-resistant design and clog-resistant eartips
Like other flagship earbuds, users benefit from a transparency mode, active noise cancellation, and wind-canceling mode. The Momentum Sport also has an IP55 water and dust resistance rating, making them ideal for workouts, an impact-resistant design, and clogging-resistant ear tips. The charging case also has an IP54 rating and offers wireless charging. '
Regarding battery life, the earbuds can last up to six hours on a single charge (although the company hasn't specified whether this is with or without ANC), increasing to up to 24 hours with a charging case. Additionally, the fast charging feature allows users to get 45 minutes of listening time in less than 10 minutes of USB-C charging.
Sennheiser Momentum Sport Price and availability
For audio enthusiasts, the codecs available on the headphones include AptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC. The headphones also support energy-efficient Bluetooth LE audio and one-to-many streaming via Auracast. That said, the Sennheiser heart rate and body temperature detecting headphones will be available starting April 9, 2024 for $329.95 in the United States. The company will manufacture them in three colors: Metallic Graphite, Burned Olive and Polar Black.
Momentum True Wireless 4 and Accemtum Plus
Besides the Momentum Sport, Sennheiser also unveiled two other models.
THE True Wireless 4 The offering is based on Qualcomm's S5 Soune Gen 2 platform, featuring the aptX lossless audio codec and ultra-low latency. The Bluetooth v5.4 headphones also bring Auracast support and improved adaptive ANC. According to the official release, they last up to 7.5 hours on a single charge and also support wireless charging. The True Wireless 4 will be available starting February 15, 2024 for $299.95.
THE AccentumPlus The over-ear headphones feature Bluetooth v5.2, aptX Adaptive connectivity for optimal sound quality and deliver up to 50 hours of listening time on one charge. Other features include adaptive ANC, wind reduction, and touch-sensitive earbuds. They will be available starting February 20 for $229.95.
