Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold to miss ‘weeks’ with knee injury،

Liverpool's Premier League title bid has suffered another blow with Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to be out until mid-February with torn knee ligaments.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, underwent an examination to assess the full extent of the damage sustained during Sunday's FA Cup third round win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

But with coach Jurgen Klopp already without several first-team players due to injuries, and Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo out for six weeks for the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup respectively, the setback Alexander-Arnold will further deplete Liverpool's squad as they attempt to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League and reach the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool will face Fulham on Wednesday in the semi-final first leg at Anfield.

“Trent hyperextended his knee in the last game,” Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders told the Liverpool website. “So he has a small tear in his lateral knee ligament and it will take him some time to recover.

“He's had a scan and he'll be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that. He'll rest a bit and hopefully he can get back to where he was.

“This guy was decisive in every game and he was the one who constantly created for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him.”

Alexander-Arnold's injury means Liverpool will be without their first-choice full-back as left-back Andy Robertson is still out following shoulder surgery last October.

But Lijnders said the Scotland international was close to returning to action, as was his replacement Kostas Tsimikas following his broken collarbone.

“Robo [Robertson]he is almost three months old, so he will be examined by the surgeon,” Lijnders said. “And if he does this scan and we see everything [so] that we can really progress him, he will go to Dubai for a week to do proper volume sessions, proper sessions, so it will be good for him.

“Then we see the three-month analysis and we can see how quickly he can get back in touch.

“Same for Kostas. Kostas is progressing very well, very quickly. So I hope both of them – Robbo and Kostas – will be back at the end of this month to train with the team.”
