Introduction

In early 2024, probably mid-January, Samsung will give us its Galaxy S24 series, which is shaping up to be a minor update over last year’s Galaxy S23 series. Design and size

Titanium is present

There won’t be much change between Galaxy S24 Ultra And Galaxy S24 Plus‘ previous generations. The larger phone will carry over the same design language used since the Galaxy S22 Ultra, while the Galaxy S24 Plus will use the same refreshed look seen on the Galaxy S23 Plus in early 2023. This design language is now consistent across the lineup, so the Galaxy S24 series will continue the trend.

Currently the only major difference expected is Galaxy S24 UltraSwitching from aluminum to titanium, which would result in negligible weight savings but offer a sturdy, more premium frame to rival the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It seems that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will also have slightly flatter sides compared to its predecessor.

At the same time, the Galaxy S24 Plus there is no titanium; Samsung will rely on Armor Aluminum for another year in a row.

Both devices are waterproof and have the same number of ports and buttons as expected. Of course, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has the extra S Pen on board. This staple of Samsung’s best phones is one of the unique and exclusive features that define the Galaxy S24 Ultra aside from pretty much every other phone.

Display differences

A bright future ahead of us

In terms of screens, the Galaxy S24 Plus bridges the gap with Galaxy S24 Ultra. While the latter will still come with a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, the Plus actually gets a 6.7-inch screen, 0.1 inch larger than the Galaxy S23 Plus.

Resolution is another area where the Galaxy S24 Plus could get an improvement. Unlike the FHD+ screen of Galaxy S23 PlusIts successor is rumored to get a WQHD display, which would put it in the Galaxy S24 Ultra territory when it comes to sharpness.

The big improvement this year might be the much brighter 2,500 nit display that’s rumored for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which will be a serious improvement over the 1,750 nit displays Samsung has used over the past two generations. It is unknown if the same display will arrive at Galaxy S24 Plus Also.

While the Galaxy S24 Ultra will likely retain the 1-120Hz refresh rate of its predecessors, we hope the Galaxy S24 Plus will finally get an LTPO screen capable of varying between 1 and 120 Hz. Previously, Galaxy Plus phones could only go down to 48 Hz.

Who invited Exynos to the party?

If rumors are to be believed, Galaxy S24 Ultra will exclusively present a Snapdragon 8 generation 3 chip all over the world. At the same time, the Galaxy S24 Plus will use the Qualcomm chip in the US, but will rely on Samsung’s Exynos 2400 silicon in all other regions around the world.

And it wouldn’t be a garden variety Snapdragon 8 generation 3 chip, notice, but a Snapdragon 8 generation 3 for Galaxy, perhaps a slightly faster version of the chip intended exclusively for Samsung flagships. With the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung got a 3.36GHz chip, slightly faster than the standard 3.2GHz edition of the Snapdragon 8 generation 3.

Some 12GB of RAM could be the new default on the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S24 Plus. It is unknown if the base storage will be 256 GB on both devices: it is possible that the Galaxy S24 Plus could come with 128GB of native storage.

On the software front, Samsung previously committed to four years of major Android upgrades and five years of security updates. Given Google’s recent announcement that the Pixel 8 series will be updated for seven years, it’s curious to see how and if Samsung will respond.

Camera

The big change with Galaxy S24 Ultra would be the unfortunate removal of the 10X ultra-long periscope. According to numerous reports, it will replace a 48MP or 50MP 5X telephoto lens, which will closely match the recent iPhone 15 Pro Max in terms of overall throw. However, rumors indicate that Galaxy S24 Ultra will retain the maximum 100X spatial zoom as the Galaxy S23 Ultra and his predecessors achieved.

Aside from this change, few if any major differences are expected for the rest of the camera lineup. The main camera will still weigh 200 MP and will most likely feature tons of image processing improvements and other enhancements to deliver better photos. The 3X short telephoto lens will most likely remain a 10 MP telephoto lens, and the ultra-wide camera will again weigh in at 12 MP.

At the same time, the Galaxy S24 Plus is not expected to make any major hardware changes to its triple-camera setup. You can hold your breath for a 50 MP main camera, aided by a 10 MP telephoto lens offering 3X optical zoom and finally, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera.

Audio and haptic quality

With the Galaxy S23 Ultra And Galaxy S23 Plus, we have obtained slight improvements in the audio level. THE Galaxy S23 Ultra, naturally, delivered a slightly punchier and louder sound. We do not anticipate any radical change with the Galaxy S24 generation.

The same goes for the haptic feedback, already extremely correct on the flagship Galaxy series.

Battery life and charging

The Galaxy S24 Plus is regaining ground

When it comes to battery life, it’s naturally too early to have realistic expectations, but we could see the Galaxy S24 Plus slip dangerously close to the Galaxy S24 Ultra and even survive it easily. After all, the Galaxy S24 Plus will have a slightly smaller screen with a lower resolution, so it wouldn’t be strange to expect the phone to really stretch the 4,900 mAh. In the case of Galaxy S24 Ultrawe’ll have more power-hungry components, led by the brighter OLED display.

As for charging, we don’t expect drastic speed improvements, so it would be safe to assume that 45W wired charging is the default on both phones. Wireless charging and reverse wireless charging will be available.

If you expected the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S24 Plus would introduce tons of changes to the flagship Galaxy formula, so you should probably reevaluate your expectations.

Like most of its competitors, Samsung aims to introduce incremental updates that will gradually evolve its flagship products rather than trying to reinvent the wheel with the Galaxy S24 series.

Until Galaxy S24 Ultra And Galaxy S24 Plus are affected, the gap between upper-tier and mid-tier devices is getting smaller and smaller every year. One will have all the features, including the useful S Pen and additional camera, while the other will surely be more affordable and easier to slip into a pocket, but other than that, both should offer the Exemplary Galaxy experience.
