This is an interesting topic for discussion that would help distinguish the old from the young, the weak from the strong… I'm joking of course. Even since the invention of the first mobile phone (or shortly after), texting has been available, and it's not a trademark of Gen Z.

It's the same for calling. People like to talk, and maybe it doesn't depend on generations. However, there may be a pattern related to lifestyle and the ever-increasing flow of information we receive every second.

Back when the Internet was a slow affair that required a desktop computer and a landline, it was much easier to call someone and tell them you needed this or that thing. These days, when you're on multiple social platforms simultaneously, making a 10-minute call can be a waste of time and energy.

Then there are people who use calling for work because it's a better way to communicate with customers and much more personal. Another angle is the real-time aspect of communication. Some people are shy or cannot operate under pressure. When you call someone, you have to act quickly and more or less improvise.

Texting, on the other hand, gives you time to prepare, structure your thoughts, detach yourself, and eliminate many potential pitfalls: voice tremor, sudden freezes, etc.

So it's not black and white. We decided to do a quick survey on the subject and see what your favorite way to communicate is when using a smartphone.

Do you like to hear the voice of your interlocutor or do you prefer to convey your message in text form? One is more personal, the other could be much more structured and you will also have time to organize your thoughts.
