California-based chipmaker AMD is set to launch the Ryzen 5 8600G desktop APU soon. Ahead of launch, the model's leaked Geekbench results suggest the integrated GPU could perform as well as Nvidia's GTX 1060. Despite being an older chipset, benchmark scores indicate a significant increase in graphics performance.

Ryzen 8600G performs well in Vulkan and OpenCL benchmarks

The AMD Ryzen 8600G recently appeared on the Geekbench 6.2.2 Vulkan and OpenCL benchmarks, where the processor scored 30,770 points in the former and 24,842 points in the latter. These are respectable scores, considering an integrated graphics chip achieved them.

Radeon 760M specifications

Benchmark scores also suggest that the Ryzen 8600G CPU could be equipped with the Radeon 760M GPU, offering slightly higher performance than the GeForce RTX 1060. This GPU is expected to come with eight compute units and 512 GPU shader cores, which is okay but less than that. of the 12 computing units and 768 shaders of the Radeon 780M.

Ryzen 5 8600G could be a very budget-friendly gaming processor

AMD's integrated GPU not only matches the older GTX 1060, but it does so with significantly less power consumption. Additionally, the Ryzen 8600G could compete as a budget gaming CPU, especially for those who can't afford a dedicated GPU due to inflated prices. The processor's graphics performance should be sufficient for most video games, even at the lowest settings.

More details should emerge after launch

The company also has the Ryzen 7 8700G processor in the works, which is expected to arrive alongside the Radeon 780M GPU. This model should offer approximately 50% better performance than the Radeon 760M over the 8600G, an even better option for casual gamers.

AMD is expected to launch both chipsets at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024. More information related to pricing and availability is expected to emerge after the launch.
