Liverpool’s Robertson ‘not close’ to training return – Klopp

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson is expected to remain on the sidelines for some time to come and will likely miss the whole of January, manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday.

Robertson is “not even close” to returning to training as he continues to recover from a dislocated shoulder he suffered while on international duty with Scotland in October.

“Robbo still needs more reach in his shoulder. [He’s] we are still not close to team training,” Klopp told a press conference.

“[He] I can do a lot of things, all without using the arm properly, which is good but on the other hand it shows that we still have a long way to go. Of course I think [he’ll miss] the whole month of January. He must be getting closer and closer. »

Robertson's replacement at left-back, Kostas Tsimikas, is also expected to be out for a long time after breaking his collarbone against Arsenal.

The club are hoping midfielder Alexis Mac Allister could return to face Newcastle on Monday as he recovers from the knee injury he suffered against Sheffield United earlier this month.

“We will see what he can do today, whether or not he can train as a team. The decision is not made, it is quite early so we will see,” added Klopp.
