CES 2024: LG To Unveils 98-inch QNED MINI LED TV with Alpha 8 Processor and latest WebOS،

To meet the growing demand for ultra-large TVs, LG Electronics is set to introduce its first 98-inch QNED TV as part of the 2024 QED TV lineup. The announcement comes in response to increasing competition in the market, where other brands have already launched large size LED LCD TVs at more affordable prices.

LG, a pioneer of OLED technology, is known for offering exceptional image quality thanks to its self-emitting screen. However, the 97-inch LG G2 Gallery Series OLED remained prohibitively priced at over Rs 2.5lakhs almost two years after its launch. Recognizing the need to tap into the rapidly growing super-large TV segment, LG has now entered the arena with its 98-inch QNED TV.

LG 2024 QNED TV lineup and their features

The 98-inch QNED TV features a new Alpha 8 processor, inheriting the features of the alpha 9 chipset. Of note is the inclusion of four HDMI 2.1 ports with a full bandwidth of 48 Gbps, making it makes an attractive choice for users with multiple HDMI 2.1 source devices, such as gaming consoles and high-end PCs. This feature positions the TV as a great option for gaming enthusiasts who want to enjoy 4K gaming on an ultra-wide screen.

Although the TV uses direct LED backlighting instead of the more expensive mini LED, LG ensures that local dimming is still in place to improve contrast performance and overall picture quality. For those looking for an upgrade to mini LED backlight technology, LG offers the QNED 90T series, available in 65, 75, and 86 inches.

During a press briefing, LG highlighted the importance of local dimming zones, citing the number of independently dimming zones and the dimming levels they enable. The QNED 90T series implements 1 million levels of grayscale shading to improve shadow details, sharpness and visual impact in dark scenes.

LG's 2024 QNED TV lineup includes the premium QNED 99T, an 8K model with mini LED backlighting, an Alpha 9 8K processor, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The QNED 85T and QNED 80T feature a slimmer design with bi-directional support, giving users the option to choose between a low-profile or raised position to accommodate accessories such as soundbars.

Despite using IPS LCD panels in QNED TVs, LG highlights unique selling points such as the intuitive webOS Smart TV platform and 3D L calibration via Calman AutoCal for improved color accuracy. The entry-level QNED 80, available in an 86-inch screen size, has a 60Hz display and an Alpha 5 processor.

As LG has revealed its QNED TV lineup, anticipation for the 2024 OLED TV lineup continues to grow, with leaked information suggesting some key features of the upcoming LG C4 OLED, as gleaned from certification websites online. Stay tuned for further updates as LG prepares to make its mark in the evolving home entertainment technology landscape.
