Xiaomi sends out invites for its 1st ever EV Event: Will reveal EV Tech on December 28،

Xiaomi is currently one of the leading brands in the smartphone and home appliances segment. The China-based brand offers a good mix of features and affordable prices and has thus earned a place among the top 5 global brands, the other 4 being Apple, Samsung, Oppo and Vivo. Today, Xiaomi wants to give a tough fight to Elon Musk's Tesla by becoming a serious competitor in the electric vehicle industry. The brand has been working on its first electric vehicle for some time now and the reveal date for Xiaomi's EV technology has also been confirmed.

Xiaomi's official account took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that Xiaomi will showcase its EV technology on December 28, 2023 at 11:30 AM IST. The company calls it “The Stride,” an event where EV technology will be showcased but no actual products will be launched. The poster shows the chassis of a car with the word “STRIDE” written on it. Here is the post announcing the event.

Xiaomi EV: What's behind it?

In March 2021, Xiaomi announced that it would invest 10 times more than all its competitors in the electric vehicle sector to manufacture quality smart electric vehicles. The company received state approval to manufacture electric vehicles in August 2021 and in November 2021 BAIC Group claimed it would work on Xiaomi's first cars.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun has repeatedly spoken about his foray into the electric vehicle sector. He claimed that Xiaomi gave a budget of 10 billion RMB and 3,400 engineers to perfect its prototype. Speaking about the type of electric vehicles that Xiaomi aims to make, he said that the company hopes to combine elements from traditional automobile and consumer electronics industries to create perfect electric vehicles. At times, while he accepted that Xiaomi's electric vehicles might not get the desired traction in the Chinese market, other times he worried that the company would not be able to keep up with demand, which would result in a two-year wait time for consumers. If that's not having great confidence in your product, what is?

Since Xiaomi has been working on its electric vehicle for years, there have been various leaks and rumors about it. Recently, some leaked renders of the electric vehicle showed a central control screen and a 3-spoke steering wheel in the car. The dimensions of the car are expected to be 4,997/1,963/1,455 mm with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm for spacious interiors. There could be 2-wheel options and LiDAR technology for advanced windshields. Two versions of the electric vehicle could be all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive offering 449 kW and 229 kW respectively. The electric vehicle is expected to use an efficient LFP battery and the series will include 3 models, namely Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi SU7 Pro and Xiaomi SU Max. The battery capacity options can be 73.6 kWh and 101 kWh with a range of 668/628 km and 800/750 km respectively.

During the event of 28th, Xiaomi could reveal details about the cars' engines, driving features, AI capabilities, color options, and more. The company plans to mass produce the electric vehicle soon so that it will be available to the public in 2024.
