GTA V’s Entire Source Code Leaks Online: Report،
After releasing one of the most popular video game trailers of all time, Rockstar Games is facing a new leak. Apparently, someone leaked the entire GTA V source code, as well as some of the GTA VI code.
GTA V source code appears online
Popular YouTuber SKizzleAXE shared screenshots of the leaked source code in a job on X (formerly known as Twitter). The source code contains references to an early map in the game. Additionally, this also suggests that GTA 6 was codenamed “Project Americas.”
Leak potentially delays GTA VI
The leak also acknowledges the presence of Bully 2, a sequel to the original 2006 video game. In another X post, Gaming Detective said The extent of the leak is not yet known, but it could cause several problems, such as delaying the next GTA VI.
It might not be an exaggeration to say that this could also lead to security issues in the game, as the source code could end up in the wrong hands. However, the studio has yet to comment on the leak.
What is source code and why is it important?
For those who are catching up, the source code of a video game, or application for that matter, is the underlying set of instructions written in a programming language. This code defines how the game works, a bit like a blueprint. Source code helps in development, customization, modding, etc. So it's a big deal for a studio like Rockstar Games to suffer such a massive leak, publicly revealing the source code of GTA V.
Rockstar Games has suffered numerous leaks recently
This is not the first time that Rockstar Games has faced a video game-related leak. In November 2023, a GTA V database file appeared on the Internet, containing several details related to one of the game's main protagonists, Trevor. Additionally, the GTA VI trailer was leaked hours before the official launch time, leading the studio to postpone the trailer launch.
