Those who absolutely hate Huawei won't be happy to learn that the Chinese gamer has achieved new success after the release of the hit Mate 60 Pro which sold like hotcakes in its country (a research firm claimed that Huawei had sold 1.6 million Mate 60 Pros in just six weeks).

After years of US sanctions and problems, Huawei's Kirin is now among the world's top five chipmakers (via Gizmochina).

According to a Q3 2023 report from Counterpoint Research, chipmaker Hisilicon (owned by Huawei) now occupies fifth place with a 3% share of the global chipset market. Of course, this concerns the 2023 Mate 60 series which contained the 5G-enabled Kirin 9000 chip and sold like crazy.

Other devices like the Mate Kirin processors.

The other players

Qualcomm. It's the chip manufacturing company you expected to see as “number one,” and it maintains its dominance with a 40% market share. Apple follows in second place with a 31% share, driven by the iPhone 15 series. Bronze is reserved for MediaTek with a 15% market share, and Samsung is fourth with a 7% market share. After Huawei, Unisoc comes in sixth position with a 2% market share and Google's Tensor SoC also secured a 1% market share while ranking seventh on the list.
