The OnePlus 12R is coming to the US after all،
The last time we had a chance to discuss the OnePlus 12R – the highly capable and affordable cousin of the OnePlus 12, with killer specs – it was announced that the phone would be reaching Europe. Good news, given that the “R” models (like the OnePlus 11R, OnePlus 10R and OnePlus 9R) were reserved for Asian markets. Now it gets even better: there's official confirmation that the OnePlus 12R will reach the United States.
Who says it?
The information comes from none other than OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau, who takes the time to engage in a “Fireside Chat” video chat with other OnePlus core members (via 9to5Google). In addition to discussing the history of OnePlus over the past 10 years, the group revealed what will happen in 2024.
In addition to India, this time we will launch the OnePlus 12R in North America, Europe and other parts of the world. No matter where people live, they will have the opportunity to experience the OnePlus R series. The OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R will therefore soon be available worldwide.
It looks great, as does the OnePlus 12R spec sheet. Let's see what OnePlus' 'R' phone of 2024 will bring to the table. Spoiler alert: a lot.
Flat screen for a flagship experience and more
Based on the leaks so far, we can expect a massive 6.7-inch AMOLED display, so far described as flat and offering 1.5K resolution with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. While we're out, users can expect to see sleek screen bezels (not very thin, but overall decent and stylish), center punch hole on the front, alert slider practical on one side, a volume rocker. on the other, and a well-arranged camera island at the back.
Besides, it's pretty safe to say that the OnePlus 12R will feature the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (like the non-R OnePlus 11 did). This is a step backwards compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found on the market. OnePlus 12but it's certainly a big step up from the performance of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that powered the OnePlus 11R.
The OnePlus 12R's battery is also expected to be impressive with a capacity of 5,500mAh and 100W charging capabilities.
Let's talk about photography
The latest OnePlus 12R leak (a few weeks ago) concerns the camera setup. The OnePlus 12R doesn't seem to disappoint photography enthusiasts with a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor for its main camera, an f/1.8 aperture, and optical image stabilization (OIS) capabilities. This feature is a must-have these days and helps a lot in getting razor-sharp images even on the go. There is of course a wide-angle camera: it will likely feature an 8 MP Sony IMX355 sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a 112° field of view. The third (and final) lens on the back will most likely be a 32 MP Sony IMX709 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture offering 2x optical zoom. 4K 60fps video recording capabilities are expected from the OnePlus 12R.
However, I haven't heard anything about the price.
If you're impressed with the OnePlus 12R so far, there's no need to start saving a lot of money, as the budget beast is expected to retail at around $500. Good luck finding the Galaxy S23 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro Max at this price…
The release of the OnePlus 12R will most likely take place alongside the US release of the OnePlus 12 in the United States on January 23, 2024.
