England’s Mary Earps wins prestigious 2023 BBC SPOTY award،

England goalkeeper Mary Earps was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Tuesday, beating cricketer Stuart Broad into second place.

Earps helped England qualify for the World Cup final in Australia and saved a penalty in the 1-0 defeat to Spain.

The 30-year-old was named the tournament's best goalkeeper to win the Golden Gloves award, conceding just four goals.

“It hasn't been the easiest journey and I wouldn't be here without my loved ones by my side, who have been with me through the bad times,” Earps, the Manchester United goalkeeper, told the audience .

“The last two years have been incredible, I’ve done more than I could have imagined.”

Earps follows her Lionesses teammate Beth Mead, who won the prestigious BBC award last year.

Heptathlon world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson came third in the voting.
