Man United still have players I warned about – José Mourinho،

Jose Mourinho is said to have told Manchester United they could not succeed with some of the players and staff remaining at the club during his tenure.

Mourinho managed United from 2016 to 2018, winning the Europa League and Carabao Cup in his first season and finishing second behind Manchester City in 2017-18. He has been Roma coach since the start of the 2021-22 season.

“There are still people in this club, and when I say people, I mean players but also other people who are not players, who are still there when I said so. [United] after two months: With these people, you will never succeed. And they're still there,” Mourinho told John Obi Mikel's Obi One podcast.

Mourinho also said the reaction of a United player after his substitution made him realize he needed to adapt his management style.

“At Man United, I changed a player at half-time… his agent then accused me of harassment,” said the Portuguese coach.

“I had to change. I remember those times and I laugh about them, but they are different times.”

Roma are seventh in Serie A after Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Thiago Motta's Bologna – but Mourinho said after the match he would like to continue his job in the Italian capital beyond the end of his contract in June 2024.

“I am frustrated by many things, but none is stronger than my feeling of closeness to this club,” Mourinho said.

“If I leave at the end of the season it won't be my decision. I want to continue here and I say it because sometimes it's better to be clear.

“If we can't recruit top players, like [Romelu] Lukaku for example, it's better to work with young players rather than guys who don't give you anything.”

Mourinho previously said he had rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, but is “convinced” he will one day work in the Gulf country.

Roma finished sixth in Serie A last season and reached the Europa League final. They won the Europa Conference League in Mourinho's first season in charge.
