Time flies, especially in the world of iPhones. Moments ago we were excited about the iPhone 15 series, and here we are, with whispers of the next-gen iPhone 16 and even the iPhone 17.

According to MacRumorsanalyst Jeff Pu, who monitors companies in Apple's supply chain, revealed the iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 48-megapixel telephoto lens.

Pu shared in a research note with Haitong International Securities, focused on Apple supplier Largan Precision, that the iPhone 17 Pro Max's upgraded 48-megapixel telephoto lens is designed for use with Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset, which is expected to arrive in the United States in early 2024. Details are scarce on how the camera plays with the VisionProbut exciting times lie ahead.

Apple is already preparing for the VisionProwith iOS 17.2 allowing iPhone15 the series records space videos with 3D depth for VisionPro. When you hold your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max in landscape mode, the prime and ultra-wide lenses combine for depth-laden spatial video magic.

Currently, the iPhone15 has a 48-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and another 12-megapixel telephoto camera. The rumor in the street is iPhone16 could flaunt a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. If all the camera-related rumors turn out to be true, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could be the first iPhone with a full rear camera team consisting of 48-megapixel sensors.

Having a 48MP telephoto lens means the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be able to capture more detail and sharpness in its zoomed photos and videos. Additionally, the higher megapixel count will improve low-light performance and image stabilization.

Mark your calendars for September 2025 (I know that's a long way off), because that's when the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to be discontinued. Apple could also be cooking up something big for displays, with rumors that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus will be the first non-Pro models to offer a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
