It's easy to get lost in Galaxy S24-related news and rumors now that the series premiere is just a few weeks away and everyone is waiting for the latest and greatest from Samsung.

One of the features of the new high-end Galaxy range could be an emergency satellite connection – something we've mentioned several times in our reports.

Now there's another leak that eliminates the likelihood of having such a useful (and life-saving) feature in the Galaxy S24 straight out of the field of rumor and into the realm of certainty.

A new leak has confirmed that the Galaxy S24 could let you send text messages via satellite in an emergency, much like new iPhones allow users (via SamMobile).

The report shows a new screenshot of a Galaxy phone, which reveals what Samsung might call an emergency texting feature that will debut with the Galaxy S24. The feature is called “Emergency SMS via Satellite”. So if you find yourself in a situation where you're trying to call emergency services but you're out of range or not connected to a mobile network, Samsung will let you send an emergency text via satellite.

This means you will be able to send vital information about your location or GPS position to emergency response teams and get help. There is no information on whether this emergency satellite connectivity will be limited to one of the two chips (Exynos and Snapdragon) on the market. Galaxy S24 range, so the report states that the feature will likely be available on both SoC variants. It remains to be seen where this feature will first be available, if it will be present at all, and which countries it might expand to in the near future.

For example, Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite feature was initially only available in the United States and Canada. Then it was gradually introduced in France, Germany, Ireland, United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

When you choose to send a message via satellite from your iPhone, you'll see that you can report five types of emergencies:

  • A car or vehicle problem
  • Illness or injury
  • Crime
  • Lost or trapped
  • Fire

Once you choose the emergency you're in, your iPhone will ask you a few more questions. These are intended to help emergency services better understand your situation. For example, if you choose “Illness or injury”. Your phone will then ask you if anyone is injured and you can simply press “Yes” or “No” to answer.

Your iPhone will then guide you through the process of connecting to a satellite. It will show you messages like “Turn right” or “Turn left” until it connects.
