Huawei steps into the open-back headphones territory with this FreeClip buds leak،

Open headphones. Is this the start of Huawei's stream of “disruptive” new products? The much-talked-about Chinese giant recently said it would launch “disruptive” products in 2024 that could “rewrite the history of the industry.”

Now, rumor has it that Huawei is (literally) set to introduce a new pair of earbuds in Dubai at a launch event scheduled for December 12 (rumor has it that a tablet will also be announced).

Instead of another set of Freebuds, Huawei is reportedly set to introduce the FreeClip earbuds, based on leaked promotional materials (via Gizmochina). Here they are:

Based on promotional renders, each earbud consists of two parts connected by a sleek curved center piece. Huawei calls it a C-bridge design, and it looks like a clip-on earring.

Hopefully the engineers have tested them thoroughly, because the human ear can come in all shapes and sizes and an earring clip could be a pain in the ear. Technically speaking, the open design should make these headphones comfortable for long periods of time, preventing hearing fatigue. Rumors also suggest that the headphones will have built-in vents for better airflow and sound quality.

The leaked image also reveals a familiar-looking charging case that accommodates the FreeClips in an inverted position. Technical specifications are so far not present in the image, but battery life is expected to reach up to 8 hours on a single charge, and some suggest that the Huawei FreeClip will be available in two color options : black and purple.

Open-back headphones are so good, actually

Contrary to what intuition might lead you to believe, open-back headphones are actually pretty good. If your interests don't include audio gear and you've only used cans or closed-back headphones, i.e. “regular” headphones (when you put them on, the rest of the world doesn't know what you listen).

Open-back headphones, on the other hand, have an open design (what a shock, right?). They seek airy, natural sound, providing an expansive soundstage, allowing audio to sound more spacious and natural. These headphones excel at providing an immersive listening experience by delivering open sound that feels less confined, making them ideal for critical listening, mixing, or home use. They also tend to offer better breathability, reducing heat and pressure around the ears during prolonged listening sessions.

On the other hand, closed-back headphones are designed to isolate sound, providing excellent sound isolation by blocking external noise and preventing sound leakage. This makes them suitable for use in noisy environments or while traveling, ensuring minimal sound leakage and avoiding any disturbance to those nearby.
