Source – Chargers’ Justin Herbert expected to be out Thursday،

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is not expected to play Thursday night against the Las Vegas Raiders due to his fractured right index finger, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Chargers coach Brandon Staley said Herbert will see two hand specialists Monday and the team will make a decision on Herbert's status Thursday after receiving information from those specialists.

“We need to just focus on his future,” Staley said. “Certainly, there's nothing more important than that than his right hand. And his long-term future. He's 25 years old and he's got a really, really bright future ahead of him. So, like I said, Every decision we make I'm going to keep that in mind.”

Herbert has started 62 consecutive games, the second-longest active streak by a quarterback, behind Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills (84).

With Herbert sidelined, Easton Stick is expected to start at quarterback against the Raiders in Las Vegas on Thursday night.

Herbert was injured Sunday during Los Angeles' 24-7 loss to the Denver Broncos, following a hit by defensive end Zach Allen in the second quarter. Herbert completed a pass to tight end Donald Parham Jr. on the play, stood up and looked at his right hand. He stayed in the game for the remainder of the series before heading to the locker room and never returning.

Stick, a 2019 fifth-round pick, replaced Herbert in the game. He led the Chargers to their only touchdown on a drive in which he completed a 57-yard pass to Quentin Johnston before Austin Ekeler rushed for the score four plays later. Stick finished the game 13-of-24 passing for 179 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions.

In Week 4, Herbert fractured the middle finger of his non-throwing hand while attempting to make a tackle after an interception against the Raiders. Herbert had only started playing without a brace in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers and had to return to it after a run in the third quarter aggravated the injury. He played with medical tape on that finger on Sunday.

In the weeks following that broken finger, the Chargers took fewer snaps under center and Herbert sometimes even passed the ball with just his right hand. The problem with Sunday's fracture is that it was caused by Herbert's throwing hand and he couldn't catch the ball.
