Granada-Athletic Club LaLiga match abandoned after fan death،

The Liga match between Granada and Athletic Bilbao was suspended on Sunday after the death of a supporter inside the stadium.

The match had started as scheduled but was interrupted early in the first half, with local media later confirming that a 64-year-old Granada fan had died following a cardiac arrest.

LaLiga has since announced that the match will resume on Monday from the 17th minute, with Athletic leading 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Iñaki Williams.

“Granada v Athletic Bilbao has been suspended following the tragic death of a supporter at the Estadio Nuevo los Cármenes,” the league said.

“Our condolences go out to their family and friends, and to all Granada fans.

“At the request of La Liga, the RFEF competition judge has decided that the match will resume on December 11 at 9 p.m. The match will resume from the 17th minute.”

Supporters had started shouting for the ball to be taken out of play as the seriousness of the situation became known in the first half, with players subsequently leaving the field.

After an hour of paramedics working to resuscitate the supporter, La Liga announced his death and the suspension of the match, with both clubs agreeing with the decision.

“LaLiga and both clubs have all agreed to cancel the match due to the death of a supporter at Los Cármenes,” Athletic said on social media.

“Athletic Club expresses its deepest condolences. Our thoughts are with the person's family and loved ones.”
