Leak explains why iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24 will have same RAM count as predecessors،

Google started the AI phone trend with the Pixel 8 and Samsung and Apple are expected to follow suit with the Galaxy S24 and iPhone 16, respectively. Although machine learning has been a part of phones for some time, the focus now is on generative AI and on-device AI. The practical applications, however, do not live up to the initial hype, which could lead to a change in Samsung and Apple's approach.
Leak @Tech_Reve reports that investment bank Mizuho Securities expects Galaxy S24 And iPhone16 family to have the same amount of RAM as its predecessors.
The iPhone 15 has 6GB of RAM and previous reports indicated the iPhone16 would come with 8 GB of RAM. The Pro models have already reached 8 GB this year. If today's rumor is legitimate, the basis iPhone16 will continue to have less RAM than the iPhone16 Pro.
The Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus have 8GB of RAM and the Ultra comes in 8GB and 12GB RAM options. A recent rumor said that the only change expected this year is that there would also be a 12GB Plus model, in addition to an 8GB variant.

Based on these rumors, it is likely that the RAM count will not increase. As Mizuho Securities points out, on-device AI will increase the need for more RAM. So why aren't companies like Samsung and Apple offering more RAM than before?

Mizuho says there are two reasons behind this. First, memory prices are expected to increase. Second, real-world applications don't seem that impressive. Apple and Samsung likely see no point in swallowing or passing on this cost if there's not much to gain.

Previously, @Tech_Reve shared a report from Macquarie Group that smartphones with built-in AI need 12 GB of RAM for image generation capabilities and 20 GB of RAM for AI assistant functions.

Even if Samsung and Apple have no plans to go all-in on AI, we do know that their new phones will have at least some AI-based features. So, we don't know if it's a good idea to stick to the same RAM configuration. Apple is rumored to be integrating AI capabilities into Siri and marketing this as one of the main selling points of the iPhone16.
Samsung is expected to integrate its Gauss generative AI model into the Galaxy S24. Gauss can generate and edit images, write emails, and summarize documents. The company could offer UFS 4.0 or Universal Flash Storage 4.0 to better handle the growing data demands of AI applications.
