In their constant quest for the all-screen, bezel-less phone of the future, companies have explored some very interesting concepts and solutions over the years. There was the era of pop-up cameras, where the selfie rose like a mechanical eye to capture that fleeting moment of vanity that no one really cared about.

There were systems that slid and flipped the main camera system (Samsung Galaxy A80), as well as crazy rotating main camera systems (Asus Zenfone 6 and 7 Flip). The latest technological advancement is the under-screen front camera that can take photos and videos under the screen pixels.

And even if we leave the cynical part of the equation aside and talk about Zoom meetings and productivity, the fact is that all of the solutions above are just workarounds. The perfect concept for an all-screen phone would be a phone without a front camera. Wow! Wait a second, no selfie?

Well yes. There were no front-facing cameras on phones until 1999, when Kyocera installed one on one of its flip models. I know, I know, phones were different back then and people could get by without a front camera. But what about today?
