Australian golfer Min Woo Lee claimed a record victory at the Macau Open, shooting a final round of 63 to secure a two-shot victory over Thailand’s Poom Saksanin.

Lee, who was ranked 47th in the world before the Asian Tour event, finished at 30 under par – a tournament record – to win for the first time since his triumph at the 2021 Scottish Open.

The previous Macau Open record was set by Queenslander Scott Hend, who shot 20 under in winning the event in 2015.

“I played wonderful, truly impeccable golf on many holes,” said a delighted Lee.

“There are only a few holes I can really remember, but I’m really proud of how I performed.”

The 26-year-old Perth product began Sunday’s final round two strokes ahead of Saksanin, who also finished with a stunning 6-under 63 on the par-71 Macau Golf and Country Club course.

“Poom played amazing today,” Lee said.

“He never left, he just stayed. I did my best and finished first, but he gave it to me all the time.

Andrew Dodt was Australia’s second-highest finisher, with his final round of 65 giving him a tournament total of 15 under and a tie for 11th on the leaderboard.
