Panthers’ Hayden Hurst – Post-traumatic amnesia won’t end career،
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst doesn't believe the post-traumatic amnesia he was diagnosed with by an independent neurologist after suffering a concussion will end his career.
“I'm getting better every day,” Hurst wrote to ESPN in a text message Thursday. “It won't end my career, I'm just cautious about my return. It should take another week or two.
The 30-year-old then expressed his thanks for the support he received and again said the injury should not end his career.
“I appreciate everyone reaching out and checking on me. I suffered a pretty nasty concussion against the Bears a few weeks ago and I don't remember it until 4 hours after the game. Scary situation but the Panthers have been amazing in walking me through this process. ,” he written the.
He added in a follow-up article: “Even though it was scary, this is NOT the end of my career. I'm starting my return to the game this week, so fingers crossed that I come back these last few weeks! God bless and keep beating !!!!”
Hurst's father, Jerry, posted a message about his son's condition Wednesday evening, hours after Hayden appeared at practice for the first time since suffering a concussion in the 9 game. November in Chicago and that he was wearing a red jersey which prevents him from any contact.

Carolina interim coach Chris Tabor said Wednesday that Hurst is “progressing” in the protocol, but provided no further information. Hurst has been absent for the last three games.
Hurst, a first-round pick of the Jaguars in 2018, would consider the Dec. 17 home game against the Falcons or the Dec. 24 home game against the Packers if he returns in one to two weeks as he hopes.
“It was a strange feeling for the first couple of weeks,” Hurst said. “I'm much better now.”
Hurst entered protocol during Thursday night's game after taking a hit that caused him to hit the ground. He was reinstated in the game and was not placed in the protocol until the next day.
The independent neurologist then told him that he suffered from post-traumatic amnesia.
“That’s what the neurologist told me, but it sounds a lot worse,” Hayden said.
Post-traumatic amnesia, according to the Cleveland Clinic, is amnesia that develops after an injury. This can involve several forms of amnesia. This can cause confusion and frustration for those affected, as they have difficulty remembering where they are, how they got there, or any new information since the injury.
Hurst signed a three-year contract with the Panthers during the offseason after one season with the Bengals, during which he caught 52 passes for 414 yards in 2022.
He has 18 receptions for 184 yards and a touchdown in nine games this season for the Panthers.
