After winning it last month, he became the first Australian to do so, but is now back after Tottenham Hotspurs went unbeaten in September.

He becomes the first Premier League manager to win successive awards in the first two months of his tenure in England’s top league.

The last manager to achieve the double was Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in 2019-20. Which bodes well for the Australian manager, Liverpool won the title that season.

Spurs played three matches in September, comprehensively beating Burnley 5-2 before securing a 2-1 victory against Sheffield United.

Their month ended with a 2-2 draw against fellow table-toppers Arsenal.

A third consecutive award could be on the cards for Postecoglou after his team started October with two consecutive victories. A 2-1 victory against Liverpool and 1-0 against Luton Town.

Postecoglou’s superb start to the season at the helm of North London has awakened dreams of an unexpected title challenge.

While this may yet prove beyond Tottenham, the Australian has undoubtedly made a huge impact on a club that was in turmoil upon his arrival from Celtic.

It is the best ever unbeaten start by a Tottenham manager and, with upcoming matches against Fulham and Crystal Palace, they could extend their unbeaten run until the rest of October.

“The players want to change the destiny of this football club and that is what they are trying to do on the pitch,” Postecoglou said.

“Everything is fine, but it’s October and we still have a lot of work to do.”

The Australian recently admitted he would never have reached the Premier League if he had continued as head coach of the national team.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Australia’s friendly against England at Wembley on Saturday, a reflective Postecoglou faced reality when discussing the Matildas’ recent World Cup success.

“It didn’t make an impact there and that was a bit of my frustration,” he told the media, including the Telegraph UK, speaking about his AFC Asian Cup victory 2015 in Australia.

“I don’t think they can achieve anything… when you look at what the Matildas did in the World Cup, it’s incredible but you still won’t see an influx of resources into the game. You won’t. I guarantee it.

“They will build stadiums and other codes will use them. I just don’t think the nation as a whole understands that you can have an impact on the world of football, but it requires a sort of nationalist approach that I just don’t think Australians – in their essence – really are. interested in.”
