Spammers could take over the Threads search results, that’s why there isn’t a chronological search،

If you're not part of the 82% who chose to abandon Threads a few weeks after its summer debut, you're probably still hanging out at Meta's X/Twitter clone.

You're probably wondering why there isn't a timeline search available to you.

Here's Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram and Threads, who took a moment out of his busy schedule to explain things. According to him, this would create significant security vulnerabilities:

In a video postMosseri explains that “if something happens in the world,” spammers and bad actors “can destroy the search results page by just adding the right word with their spam links” (via Android titles).

Mosseri says there are several ways to combat this problem, such as having a search results page that takes into account both timeline and quality. However, Mosseri said having Threads be the arbiter of publication-worthy results would raise censorship concerns. With all this in mind, he does not rule out such a possibility in the future.

Don't expect search results on Threads to be listed in the order they were published – at least not in the very near future.

“It’s just not as simple as people like to make it out to be,” Mosseri said. “But we are definitely exploring all options.”

Meanwhile, the Threads team is busy implementing other products in the X/Twitter clone. Last week, Threads announced plans to improve search functionality by expanding the availability of keyword search. This feature, now widely available, allows users to easily find conversations focused on specific topics, promoting more engaging and informed discussions.

In mid-November, something much more important was made possible: Threads users can now finally delete their profile separately from Instagram.
