The much-anticipated iQOO 12 India launch is on the horizon, promising cutting-edge features and performance. Known for its mantra “I Quest On and On”, iQOO is gearing up to be the first brand to introduce Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in its flagship phone. Known for its focus on performance and gaming-centric improvements, iQOO is now emphasizing the camera capabilities of its next flagship.

In anticipation of the iQOO 12 launch, the company has generously provided an exclusive preview of the iQOO 12 cameras, providing unlimited access for full exploration. In this article we will share our first-hand experience with the camera, including a selection of camera samples.

Let's talk about camera hardware first

The iQOO 12 features a formidable triple-camera setup, led by a 50-megapixel camera featuring phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), optical image stabilization (OIS) and an f/1.7 aperture. Additionally, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.0 aperture adds versatility. The device also features a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, PDAF, OIS and an f/2.6 aperture, capable of an impressive 100X digital zoom. Introducing an Astro mode for night sky enthusiasts, iQOO is keen to showcase the various capabilities of its camera setup.

During a recent excursion to Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India, we had the opportunity to thoroughly test the iQOO 12 cameras. On a cloudy day, the main camera managed to capture sharp photos with color natural, thus avoiding the excessive saturation seen in some high-end phones. Shutter response was instantaneous, demonstrating no issues finding focus.

Telephoto lens in action

The 64 MP periscope telephoto lens demonstrated its prowess by capturing stunning images at different magnifications. The bokeh effect was precise, preserving the edges of the subject without distortion. Although there is a subtle change in color tones between zoom levels, iQOO assured that a software update before launch would resolve this issue.

Although the iQOO 12 can achieve up to 100X digital zoom, its practical usability might cap at around 10X. Our test shots at the 0.6x, 1x, 3x, and 10x zoom levels revealed impressive detail, with the 10X shot exhibiting a commendable level of clarity.

The iQOO 12's Macro mode, using the telephoto lens for 6x zoom, delivered sharp, detailed results. Anticipating how the camera will perform in various scenarios, a comprehensive review will follow, offering a deeper insight into its capabilities.

Conclusion

Based on our initial experience and shared camera samples, the iQOO 12 looks poised to deliver a great photography experience. A full review, including a detailed analysis of the camera's performance, will be released shortly after the device's official launch.
