iOS 17.2 To Support Qi2 Wireless Charging On Older iPhone Models،

Apple recently released iOS 17.2 RC for beta testers, and the new update contains a useful feature for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. All eight models in these lines, including the standard iPhones, the Plus version /mini and the four Pros. The variants currently support Qi wireless charging, which is not the latest standard. However, as the stable iOS 17.2 update arrives, this will change that.

iOS 17.2 will enable faster wireless charging on these iPhones

According to the iOS 17.2 changelog, the update will bring Qi2 wireless charging support for all iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models. This would make the 2021 and 2022 iPhone models compatible with the latest standard and would effectively increase the wireless charging speed from 7.5W to 15W. The Qi2 standard also offers better MagSafe alignment and power efficiency, as WPC worked closely with Apple for this one.

Before Apple releases an iOS version to everyone, it has a release candidate for beta testers. Above all, it is the version candidate which makes it the final and stable update accessible to all. Therefore, Qi2 wireless charging compatibility should be available to users soon. Previously, only the latest iPhone 15 models were compatible with the newer standard.

Qi2 wireless chargers should be available soon

Although there are no Qi2-compatible wireless chargers on the market, they are expected to arrive by the end of this year or early 2024. According to WPC, more than 100 devices are in the certification queue, which which means users with an iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 should soon be able to purchase a faster wireless charger. In 2024, several Android devices, mainly flagships, are also expected to adopt the new wireless charging standard.
