Lyon fans banned from travel to rescheduled Marseille game

Lyon fans have been banned from attending the rescheduled Ligue 1 match in Marseille due to the risk of serious clashes between supporters, the French Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The initial match, on October 29, was canceled after the Lyon team bus was pelted with stones, injuring coach Fabio Grosso, who has since been replaced, as the players headed to the Stade Vélodrome. The postponed match will take place on Wednesday.

“On Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from midnight to midnight, individual or collective travel by any person claiming to be a supporter of the Olympique Lyonnais club or behaving as such, is prohibited between the municipalities of the Rhône department and the municipality of Marseille, » said the Order in the Official Journal.

The decree states that there is a real and serious risk of clashes between supporters of the two clubs due to the animosity they feel towards each other.

He also specified that the club is very frequently a source of disturbances to public order due to the violent behavior of certain supporters or individuals claiming to belong to this team.

On Saturday, a Nantes supporter was stabbed before the match against Nice at the Beaujoire stadium.
