New WhatsApp Features In Development: Channel Forwarding And Filter For Status Updates،

Over the past few days, Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has been experimenting with several features. Usually, most of them make it to a stable version of the application, but even if they don't make it immediately, they eventually get deployed. WhatsApp update tracker, WABetaInfo, keeps track of all these features. Here are all the new features that WhatsApp is working on or rolling out to users.

WhatsApp Send as Document feature rolled out to iOS users

According to a report published on December 4, 2023, WhatsApp is rolling out the “Send as Document” feature for media files on iOS to everyone. Build number 23.24.73 is marked as compatible and available as a stable update on the App Store.

It allows iPhone users to send media files as documents, surpassing the compressions that WhatsApp subjects them to, while retaining their original quality and details. The update also brings the ability to start voice chats without calling everyone in large groups and shows new chat bubbles to remind users of something they might have missed.

According to a report today, the messaging platform is also working on a feature called Channel Forwarding (spotted in WhatsApp for Android beta 2.23.26.2). As the name suggests, the feature will allow channel owners to forward supported messages from other chats on the app to channels. Messages that users can transmit include text, images, videos, audio notes, GIFs, and more. This will allow channel owners to send messages they deem appropriate to their channels without writing them from scratch.

WhatsApp is also working on filters for status updates

The most recent update to WABetaInfo is another feature called “Filters for Status Updates”. The feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.25.10.71. It presents status updates posted by other users in three ways. To access it, beta testers need to tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the Updates tab and select All, Recent, Viewed, or Mute.

The first filter shows all status updates, while the second and third show those recently uploaded and those that users have already viewed, respectively. The last option displays silent status updates, which would not otherwise be visible. Both features in development are expected to be released to all WhatsApp users soon.
