Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence exits after ankle injury late vs. Bengals،

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence injured his right ankle late in the fourth quarter of Monday night's overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and did not return.

Initial tests showed Lawrence had sprained his ankle, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. He will need to undergo additional tests to determine the extent of the injury.

Jaguars coach Doug Peterson did not have an update on Lawrence's status after the game.

Lawrence was injured when left tackle Walker Little was pushed backwards and stepped on his ankle, which then appeared to trap beneath him as he fell to the ground. Lawrence tried to get up, then dropped to his knees and slammed his helmet on the ground in frustration.

Lawrence was assisted from the field by medical personnel and required the assistance of a person under each arm as he walked through the tunnel toward the Jaguars locker room and X-ray area.

Backup quarterback CJ Beathard took over on Jacksonville's next offensive possession with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter. He led the Jaguars to a game-tying field goal to send the game into overtime, where they lost 34-31.

The Jaguars also lost wide receiver Christian Kirk to a groin injury earlier in Monday's game.

Kirk was injured when he made a 26-yard catch on the Jaguars' first offensive play. He hit the ground hard and after being on the ground for several moments, he was helped off the field. He was taken straight to the locker room.

Kirk entered the game as the Jaguars' receiving yards leader (761) and second in receptions (56).

Nickelback Tre Herndon was also ruled out with a concussion.
