Samsung May Use Sony Sensors On Galaxy S25: Report،

Korean technology conglomerate Samsung seems to be changing a lot of things in its smartphone division. First, it decided to ship the standard Galaxy S24, and the Galaxy S24 Plus will feature the Exynos 2400 SoC instead of the latest Snapdragon chipset. Now, a report suggests it will rely on Sony's camera sensors for two models in the Galaxy S25 lineup.

The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus will be equipped with Sony's image sensor

According to tipster Revegnus, the Samsung Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus will use Sony's image sensor. This implies that the Korean tech giant will replace its sensors, i.e. the ISOCELL sensors that it has been using for years, and replace them with sensors from Sony.

For the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, Samsung used the ISOCELL GN3 50MP sensors with a size of 1/1.57 inch and a pixel size of one micron. Although the tipster didn't mention anything about which particular Sony sensor Samsung would be using, this is a big change for the company.

Will the Galaxy S25 with Sony sensors display better images?

A report from Android Authority mentions that Samsung may choose to use similar Sony sensors on its 2025 flagships, such as the IMX 890/LYT-700. Additionally, there is no major difference between the camera sensors of the two giants. Therefore, this should not create a difference between day and night in the final images.

Images clicked using a smartphone depend on the main sensor of the camera, but the image signal processor (or chipset) also plays a vital role in the overall result. For the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung will reportedly use Exynos chipsets on non-Ultra models and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC for the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Once these smartphones are released, we will clearly know whether Samsung's image signal processors can compete with Qualcomm's. This would help us speculate whether the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus equipped with Sony's image sensors would perform better or worse. For now, this is the extent of the information we have.
