“To be honest, it’s mental,” Trent-Alexander told Sky Sports. “A game of huge ups and downs. Leading, then getting caught twice, then obviously losing with five minutes to go, getting the equalizer, then getting the winner.

“It was an incredible match, full of emotion. I'm just very, very happy to get the victory and to be able to cross the finish line.”

Liverpool are two points behind leaders Arsenal, while Manchester City are third with 29 points, but play later on Sunday. Fulham are 14th.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game with so many great goals,” a smiling Klopp told Sky Sports.

“We scored some incredible goals today, but we almost gave them away and we have to say that too. We were really good in the match, we played a lot of good things, but it was 2-2 and it 'was deserved at half-time.'

Fulham looked set to end Liverpool's unbeaten run at Anfield in the Championship which dates back to October 2022 before Mohamed Salah laid it past Endo for a long-range goal.

After sprinting towards the center circle, Alexander-Arnold connected with Kostas Tsimikas' header to volley home the winner from the edge of the area.

“I just anticipated it, I saw it was going to come at the far post,” Alexander-Arnold said. “I was just thinking about trying to aim, I found the way to the back of the net. You can see by the celebration how much it meant.”

Klopp celebrated the victory with some delighted fist bumps to the fans.

Harry Wilson, Kenny Tete and Bobby De Cordova-Reid scored for Fulham who twice recovered from being a goal behind.

Alexander-Arnold was first credited with Liverpool's first goal in the 20th minute, a superb free-kick that went over the wall before glancing under the crossbar and then towards goalkeeper Leno.

Mac Allister's first goal for Liverpool was memorable when a Fulham clearance fell at his feet in the 38th minute. He took a few touches before launching a rocket from 25 yards into the top corner.

Alexander-Arnold's late heroics came a week after his 80th-minute goal ended Manchester City's 23-game winning run at the Etihad Stadium with a 1-1 draw.

Salah thought he had scored his 200th goal for Liverpool in the opening minutes of the match with his close-range stab, but VAR determined Diaz was offside.

There was a long delay in the first half after Leno took a knee to the head, but he remained in the game with his head heavily bandaged.
