Apple’s latest iPhone 15 ad promotes a couple of new, nifty camera features،

On any iPhone 15 model, users can convert a photo of a person, dog, or cat to a portrait once the photo is processed. It’s pretty cool. And to make this feature even better, you can move the focus to any of the subjects in the photo. Again, this is only available on the iPhone15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. To convert such a photo to a portrait, follow these instructions:
  • Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
  • Tap any photo taken in Photo mode to view it full screen, then tap Edit.
  • If portrait effects are available, tap the Depth Adjustment button, then tap Portrait at the top of the screen.
  • Use the Depth Control slider to increase or decrease the level of portrait background blur.
  • Tap Done.
  • To undo portrait effects, open the photo, tap Edit, then tap Revert.

Note that if you do this with a Live Photo, the Live Photo effects are not available.

To move the focus to one of the subjects in the photo, follow these instructions:
  • Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
  • Tap any portrait to view it full screen, then tap Edit.
  • Tap a new subject or focus point in the photo.
  • Tap Done.
In a new promotional video from Apple called “Album Cover,” Apple shows how these features work. A female member of a musical trio uses her iPhone to turn a photo of the three into a portrait for the cover of the upcoming album. When she presses the Portrait button, she stays in focus while the other two group members are blurred in the background. Showing the photo to one of her bandmates, she asks him what he thinks of the cover image for the band’s upcoming album.

Even though he says he loves it, he wants to make a small change and when the phone is returned to its owner, we see that the guitarist has gotten back into focus and put his two bandmates out of reach . A little enlightenment is needed here, and the woman says to the guitarist, “Okay, I just seem to see you more when I see you less.”

The two move back and forth quickly changing the focus of the photo between them. She thinks she should be the one in the center of attention since the album is about her recent breakup. “With me,” said the guitarist. To break the tie, they decide to ask Brian, the third member of the group, to decide which version of the portrait is better. But Brian chose one photo with him in focus and the other two blurry. “It’s iconic,” he says.

No, this isn’t Apple’s best ad, promo video, or anything. But it presents the new features in an easy-to-understand way. If this is an ad, a heavily edited version could be seen at this weekend’s NCAA basketball and football games, NBA and NHL games, and NFL battles Sunday.
