Entire iPhone 16 Series To Get Capacitive ‘Action Button’،

We are still almost ten months away from the launch of the iPhone 16 series. However, that does not stop reports from revealing various details about the series. The latest to hit the market via MacRumors suggests that Apple is considering introducing an action button across the entire iPhone 16 range.

For the uninitiated, the Action Button is a mechanical switch that replaced the Silent Button on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. This is a setup with at least ten functions for you to choose from. As noted, the button has been integrated into the Pro series, leaving the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus wanting more. It turns out the iPhone 16 series might be a little different as there’s plenty of evidence that Apple plans to integrate the Action Button across the entire lineup – iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max ( or Ultra).

Having an action button instead of a mute slider/switch allows iPhone users to do just about anything. You can configure the button to trigger silent or normal mode or use it to turn on the flashlight. You can use it to start or stop voice memos, translate from supported languages and much more.

The entire iPhone 16 series will benefit from these capabilities if publications are to be believed. Previous hardware configurations and prototypes at earlier stages of development included an action button in the design as well as non-action button designs as a fallback in case things didn’t go as planned.

The action button will be capacitive instead of mechanical

Yes, another update indicates that the action button of the iPhone 16 series will not follow in the footsteps of its predecessors. Instead, they will be capacitive, much like the Touch ID Home buttons on previous iPhone models. It will have a force sensor and haptic sensors to communicate stimuli and responses. They will also have “touch switching functionality”, although we don’t yet know what that entails.

The capture button is reportedly in the works

If that’s not all, the iPhone 16 series will introduce a new capacitive button called “Capture Button”. Called Project Atlas, it will have both a force sensor and touch-sensitive switching functionality, much like the next-generation action button. Turns out we don’t know what the Capture button is for, although some say it will replace the power button. I would say it could be an actual photo capture button and hence the name. However, it remains to be seen where we end up with the iPhone 16 series.

Apple is likely to introduce the action button on its fourth-generation and affordable iPhone SE 4 sometime in 2025, possibly eliminating traces of the mute switch. We have been covering iPhone 16 series news for a while, you can read and follow us for more updates.
