Tim Tszyu has called for a fight with Jermell Charlo to “prove to everyone” who the true king of the super welterweight division is following his unanimous decision victory over Brian Mendoza.

Tszyu defended his WBO super welterweight title for the first time against Mendoza in a dazzling display, although he couldn’t drop the tough American.

In his post-fight interview with Main events Ben Damon, Tszyu’s attention immediately turned to what the future might hold for him as he looks to unify the super welterweight division.

“Charlo…Charlo, where are you?” » said Tszyu.

When asked what he thought Charlo would have taken away from his performance, Tszyu replied: “In his delusional head he’ll probably say he’s going to beat me.

“Come and get it. Come and get it.

A fight between Charlo and Tszyu seems destined considering the two were scheduled to face each other in January earlier this year, only for the former to seriously injure his hand during a fight.

Charlo then moved up two weight divisions to fight boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but was widely criticized for his lackluster performance against the Mexican in a comprehensive defeat.

Tszyu called on Charlo, who holds the IBF, WBA and WBC super welterweight titles, to finally face him once and for all to provide the boxing world with a clear vision king.

“Sure, man,” Tszyu said.

“He (Charlo) is the best 154, but let’s prove it to everyone who is truly the king of the division.”

And Tszyu made it clear where he hoped his next fight would take place, given he reiterated that his fight against Mendoza would be his last on Australian shores for the foreseeable future.

“See you in Vegas,” Tszyu said.

Whether Charlo will fight in Vegas remains to be seen, especially given Tszyu’s composure and calculation against one of the division’s biggest counterpunches in Mendoza.

And ‘The Soul Taker’ had nothing but positive words to say about his rival, who became Tszyu’s 24th victim in the ring.

“He’s tough, he’s skilled, he’s skillful, he’s got power,” Tszyu said.

“He’s world class for a reason. Right behind me.
