Threads, Instagram’s social networking app, has taken a major step to improve its search functionality by expanding the availability of keyword search. In an official announcement, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, outlined the main goal of the feature: to simplify the process of finding new and engaging conversations. He acknowledged that keyword search was previously limited, but is now accessible “wherever Threads is available,” highlighting the company’s commitment to providing a seamless user experience.

Implementing keyword search everywhere and in every language paves the way for the introduction of trending topics, a feature widely expected and requested by Threads users. By analyzing popular search queries and identifying recurring keywords, Threads can compile a list of trending topics, keeping users up to date on the most discussed topics within the app.

Threads continues to go through its internal list of features it plans to bring to its user base, including some secret ones on mobile and web and the much-requested “edit button.” Trending topics and direct messages are also rumored to be available on the app soon, although these have not been confirmed by the company.

Threads is currently in a unique position to significantly grow the platform and expand its user base by rolling out useful features as it has since launch.
