Tim Tszyu proved both his absolute class and his ‘animal’ power in a spectacular defense of his WBO super welterweight world title against Brian Mendoza on the Gold Coast.

In his first official defense of the proper belt, Tszyu both demonstrated brutality and the ability to box perfectly according to the rules of the fight – aiming for rounds and victory, rather than the highlight of the knockout.

Despite annihilating Mendoza in the subsequent rounds, with viewers stunned by the American’s ability to withstand the onslaught, Tszyu did not fall into the trap of simply going too hard and simply accepted this which was an inevitable victory.

To summarize, commentator Ben Damon described Tszyu as both “animal” and “detailed and dominant.”
