It’s the month of Chinese smartphone launches. Xiaomi has already launched its Xiaomi 14 series in China, and OnePlus continues to tease its flagship phone (check out these sample images!). Today, another flagship phone from the Far East has appeared, namely the Redmi K70. Some of you may know that this Xiaomi sub-brand usually launches its K series as Poco worldwide, so we expect the K70 to arrive globally soon as Poco F6.

The Redmi K70 screen was jointly developed with TCL

Now let’s get back to the devices in question. The top model of the range is the Redmi K70 Pro (everyone should have a ‘Pro’ model these days) and it has some seriously impressive specs. For starters, the 6.67-inch OLED display with 1440p resolution is a collaboration with TCL, and it can produce up to 4,000 nits of brightness. Xiaomi 14 Pro and its 3,000 nits screen currently take first place in the screen brightness race. Further down the spec sheet we find a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz and PWM (pulse width modulation) dimming of 3,840Hz, and it can produce 12 bits (68.7 billion) colors. According to Redmi, there is also some AI magic, to further enhance the visual experience.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in use

The Redmi K70 is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, just like most of its Chinese flagship siblings launching this fall. The base memory configuration of the Pro models is 12GB/256GB, but the phone is available with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of fast UFS 4.0 storage.

Redmi has redesigned the phone’s cooling system and now has 5,000 square millimeters of surface area to keep the phone cool during gaming sessions and other busy scenarios.

Flagship-grade camera system

The Redmi K70 range comes with the same main camera across all three models, with a 50MP 1/1.55″ sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. The sensor is branded as “Light Hunter 800”, and this could have something to do with the Sony Lytia 800 sensor, which is a pixel-stacked CMOS design, but details are scarce at the moment. The Pro model also has a 50 MP telephoto lens, which is marketed as a camera portrait, as it zooms 2x. A 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera rounds out the system on the back. The front camera is a 16 MP shooter.

Battery and charging

There’s a big 5,000mAh battery inside the Redmi K70 Pro, and it’s paired with 120W fast charging capabilities. Redmi claims 0-100% in just 18 minutes, which is in line with this which we have on other super-fast charging Chinese flagships supporting similar power.

Models, prices and availability

There are three models launched in China: the Redmi K70E, which is a budget version; the vanilla Redmi K70; and the top-of-the-line model with the Pro moniker in its name. The Redmi K70 Pro starts at CNY 3,299 (around $465), and if you want the 24GB/1TB version, you’ll have to shell out CNY 4,399 ($620). Of course, these prices will likely be different when the phone launches globally under the Poco brand.

What do you think of the Redmi K70? Do we need 4,000 nits of brightness, or is this just marketing? Let us know in the comment section below.
