Design and display quality
Similar look, but more elegant and refined
The OnePlus 12 looks a lot like the OnePlus 11: a large 6.7-inch size with a slim body, circular camera system, 3-way mute switch.
However, this time, OnePlus has paid more attention to the craftsmanship in small details. For example, the camera system is surrounded by a metal ring that resembles a part of a luxury watch.
The new OnePlus 12 also still uses an optical in-display fingerprint scanner, so no changes are expected here.
Last year, the OnePlus 11 introduced a revolutionary new vibrating motor with a size of 600mm.2, almost twice the size of most others on the market. This vibration motor provides nice, crisp haptics, simulating the feeling of using a real keyboard when typing and going so far as to be able to give you different haptics for different weapons in supported games. This custom-designed vibration motor will likely also be present on the OnePlus 12.
What doesn’t change is the screen size, which remains at 6.7 inches, but the screen uses a newer panel and should be able to get much brighter, reaching a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, ideal for outdoor use.
The OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11 should come with a charger and that signature red cable included in the box, and that’s good to hear since most other competitors no longer provide a charger.
Performance and software
How much faster is Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the OnePlus 12?
Performance Benchmarks:
We will have the first benchmarks of the OnePlus 12 soon and we will update this section with information on the stability of the performance and if it is affected by thermal throttling.
Last year, OnePlus stepped up its software update commitment and promised four major OS updates for the OnePlus 11. This year, we expect the same 4-year update commitment for the OnePlus 12. It’s worth mentioning that the OnePlus 12 is coming to China for the first time, but while most of the specifications of this Chinese model are expected to be the same as the global version that will launch later, the supported bands are different. This means that if you try to import a Chinese model, you might encounter connectivity issues (not to mention different Android versions), so we’d definitely advise waiting for the global release.
Camera

But what ultimately matters is the quality of the image and video, and especially this last aspect has never been OnePlus’ strong point. The official sample photos look incredibly photo-promising, and we’ll keep you updated with more details as they arrive.
Battery life and charging
A big increase in battery life is possible
The OnePlus 12 is expected to arrive with a 5,400 mAh battery inside, a big jump from the 5,000 mAh battery in the OnePlus 11 (and most Android flagship phones as well for that matter).
This could prove to be a big deal if OnePlus manages to beat the competition in battery life. Again, we’ll talk about this again after the official announcement on December 5th.
The previous OnePlus 11 didn’t support wireless charging at all, and the company said that with fast wired charging, most people don’t really need wireless charging. However, the new OnePlus 12 benefits from wireless charging and fast charging, at speeds of up to 50W (this requires the use of a OnePlus charger for these fast speeds, however).
Summary and expectations
Just a few years ago, OnePlus seemed a little confused and losing its identity. But he was committed to rediscovering himself and the OnePlus 11 was the first step in that process.
The OnePlus 12 goes even further. It’s a flagship phone through and through, with a flagship processor, a more refined design, and improved cameras.
The big question remains that of price. If it launches at the same $700 starting price as the previous generation, it can really stand out more in the market now that Pixel phones have gone up in price and don’t really have the same level of performance. We will know more on December 5, after the official presentation of the phone in China, but don’t forget that the global version is still far ahead of us since it should arrive in the first quarter of 2024.
