Fernandes jokes Garnacho watching ‘too many Ronaldo videos’،

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes says Alejandro Garnacho watched “too many videos of Cristiano Ronaldo” after the teenager’s stunning spot-kick against Everton on Sunday.

Garnacho, 19, scored with an acrobatic kick in the 3-0 win at Goodison Park and marked it with Ronaldo’s “Siuuu” celebration.

Ronaldo scored his own impressive spot-kick for Real Madrid against Juventus in 2018, and Fernandes hinted that Garnacho took inspiration from the Portuguese legend.

“It’s amazing, something extraordinary, I think,” Fernandes said. “He probably watches too many Cristiano clips! We all know he’s a big fan.”

Garnacho is still finding his feet at Old Trafford following his breakthrough season last year, and Fernandes has challenged the youngster to copy more than just Ronaldo’s overhead kick technique.

“He still has a long way to go to be like Cristiano, but he is taking his first steps,” added the United captain.

“He wants to be something special in the world of football and I think he has the ability to do it, but he has to do more than that goal!”

The win at Everton – United’s biggest Premier League win so far this season – was the perfect preparation ahead of a tough Champions League trip to Galatasaray on Wednesday.

It was a disappointing start for Erik ten Hag’s side, who lost three of four Group A matches, but Fernandes insists they are ready for what could be a hostile atmosphere in Istanbul.

“The confidence level is always high because you play for such a big club,” he said.

“Your confidence has to be high every time because you know the expectations of this club, the expectations of yourself, the expectations of your teammates.

“So everyone knows in this locker room that we have great players, we have a great team that can achieve great things. We just have to step up.”
