Android users complain after Google removes popular homescreen app icon notification feature،

Before Android users installed Android 14 on their handsets, they had a shortcut that could help them quickly see a notification from an app by long-pressing the app icon on the screen reception. A single full notification would appear on the screen and a counter in the corner would alert the user if there were more notifications from that app. Tapping the notification would open it or the user could simply swipe to dismiss it.
But in Android 14, a long press on an application icon no longer displays notifications. It shows app shortcuts, app info, Pause app and widgets. Removing notifications from the app icon by long-pressing was first spotted when Google was releasing beta versions of Android 14 to those installed in the Android 14 beta program. Once the stable version of Android 14 was released in October, more and more users realized that notifications were missing and the number of complaints on tracking Google issues climbed to over 100.
One comment read: “Why would you remove such a useful feature? This is a truly regressive step. And another comment said: “Just to add my disappointment, this feature was very useful! Do you intend to put it back in place? Another Android user expressed their displeasure, writing: “Removing this feature was a bad decision. It improved visibility of notifications and was extremely intuitive. Submit comments to reconsider this decision. It was definitely an ill-advised decision. , especially for users who focus on productivity.”

A Googler responded: “Thanks for reporting this issue. We have looked into the issue you reported and want to let you know that it works as expected. It was removed in the latest update.” So that’s bad news for Android users who were hoping the feature removal was a bug that could be fixed with a software update. Now that Google has extinguished all hope, Android users need to understand that unless Google changes its mind, long-pressing an app icon on the home screen will no longer show notifications.
