Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, aka ChatGPT, as it is commonly known, is a large chatbot based on a language model developed by OpenAI that has taken the world by storm. Launched last year on November 22, this chatbot allows users to get answers to answers or help with whatever they need. ChatGPT is a big step towards artificial intelligence and OpenAI says it is a constantly evolving and progressing project. This is why OpenAI continues to introduce new versions and features to make the ChatGPT experience even better.

For example, in November 2023 itself, OpenAI launched GPT-4 Turbo (having 2 versions), refined GPT-4, proposed a provision for users to create their own GPT, launched DALL-E 3 API and new text verse-voice patterns, and much more. Another feature recently introduced by OpenAI for ChatGPT was voice chats with ChatGPT. It rolled out in September 2023, but until now it was only available to paid subscribers. Read on to learn more about this feature and how to check if it has been rolled out to your device.

Free ChatGPT voice chat feature

Until now, the voice chat feature cost $20 per month, so only subscribers could access it, but the feature is now being made available to all Android and iOS users, also for free. The voice chat feature is rolling out for free on the ChatGPT app for Android and iOS, but it will not be available on the web version of ChatGPT at this time.

“ChatGPT with Voice is now available to all free users. Download the app to your phone and tap the headset icon to start a conversation,” OpenAI wrote on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

Voice chat functionality: what is it?

The voice chat feature on ChatGPT, as the name suggests, allows users to ask questions verbally to GPT. You no longer need to type your question or project title, but simply say it like you do with Google, Alexa or Siri. The Chatbot will convert this verbal query into text and feed it into the LLM to find an answer. ChatGPT also responds to you in voice format, so you don’t need to read what’s written on the screen but just listen to it.

Once you are finished using the feature, you can click the close button to return to the home page of your ChatGPT window. These voice conversations will be available in written form on your ChatGPT chat window.

Basically it means that now if you are working on writing a report on any topic and you are stuck somewhere, you can switch to the ChatGPT app on your mobile or tablet, voice your query and listen to the response to continue working without wasting. time writing or reading the text on the screen.

The service is gradually rolling out to all Android and iOS devices, follow the steps below to find out if you have received the feature or not.
