Giants’ Daniel Jones facing 8-10 months of recovery after surgery،

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones successfully underwent surgery to repair the ACL in his right knee on Wednesday and faces eight to 10 months of recovery.

The procedure was performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York by team physician Dr. Scott Rodeo. Eight months of recovery would take Jones, 26, until the start of training camp next summer.

“I’m more focused on a day-to-day basis on what I’m doing here and trying to be healthy,” Jones, who was injured Nov. 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders, told the “Up and Adams Show “. Tuesday. “I prepared for this surgery and then I recovered from this surgery. How it works depends in some way and I don’t have a lot of control over that. Just focus on what I can do to come back.”

The Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract earlier this year, and he is due another $35.5 million in guaranteed salary next season.

This season hasn’t gone as planned, with the Giants struggling for reasons beyond Jones’ play. The quarterback has thrown just two touchdown passes and six interceptions in six games while being sacked 30 times.

This puts his future in question, with the Giants likely to land a high pick in next year’s draft.

Undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito has started the last two games for New York (3-8), which currently sits in last place in the NFC East. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor is currently on injured reserve with a rib cage issue.

Jones waited 17 days before undergoing surgery to allow the swelling to go down and strengthen the muscles around the knee. He was in the locker room just last week, walking with only a slight limp.

The injury occurred when Jones returned to pass on the final play of the first quarter against the Raiders. His leg bent as he tried to move in the pocket. After trying to come back, his right knee gave way in the middle of his step back on the next play.

The season started with so much promise and top talent, but ended with so little progress and a devastating injury. Jones also missed three games earlier this season with a neck injury.

The Giants went 1-5 in Jones’ starts this season, and he had a QBR of 39.1. Last season, Jones finished sixth in QBR with 62.9 and led the Giants to the playoffs, where he was nearly perfect in a playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

“I mean, it’s tough, for sure,” Jones said recently. “You put a lot into the season. You prepare a lot to play, and to have an injury take you away is really tough. It’s real and it’s something you deal with as a player, but it’s part of it. of the game at this level.

“…But I can’t afford to feel sorry for myself or sulk. That’s part of it, and everything will be fine. I’m going to bounce back, attack the rehab process like I have anything else and come back stronger.”
