Meta Announces AI Stickers For WhatsApp: Everything You Need To Know

Meta has many messaging and social media platforms including WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook and Instagram. These applications allow billions of users around the world to connect and communicate with each other. Besides text messaging, these platforms also allow users to send stickers, providing a fun way to convey emotions and feelings. To make sending stickers even more interesting, Meta launched AI Stickers for all its platforms, allowing users to create their stickers using generative AI.

WhatsApp gets generative AI to create stickers

With AI Stickers, users can “effortlessly generate custom stickers” for their chats and stories. To create stickers, Meta relies on Llama 2 and Emu, which make it easy to generate text to image in seconds. The new feature will roll out to select English-speaking users on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Facebook Stories over the next month. At the time of writing, the feature is not available on the latest iOS 17 and Android 13 versions of the app in India; it should be deployed soon.

Create your own stickers on WhatsApp

  1. To create an AI sticker on WhatsApp, open a chat and tap the emoji icon in the bottom right corner.
  2. Then select the page turning icon to the right of the menu bar. Next, click “Create” and press “Continue” if prompted.
  3. Enter a clear description of the sticker in a few words.
  4. The app will generate up to four versions of the sticker. Additionally, users can edit their descriptions and generate more variations.
  5. Once finished, tap a sticker to send it to chat. Although these steps apply to WhatsApp on Android, they should be similar on WhatsApp for iOS.

Users can also mark a sticker as favorite. To do this, they need to long-press on a sticker in a chat and select “Add to Favorites.” Similarly, one can report an AI-generated sticker on WhatsApp or any other Meta platform. Users simply need to long-press on a sticker, tap the three-dot icon, and then select Report > Report. Although we have referenced WhatsApp’s support pages for these details, some steps may vary when the feature becomes available.
