MediaTek’s new chipset brings generative AI to mid-range smartphones،

After launching the Dimensity 9300 as a response to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 8300 smartphone chipset, marking its foray into the mid-range segment with support for generative AI on the device.

The latest addition to the Dimensity 8000 series brings generative AI capabilities, power-efficient performance, adaptive gaming technology and fast connectivity, aiming to deliver flagship-level experiences to the mid-range 5G smartphone market. of range.

Dr. Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit, highlighted: “With MediaTek’s optimized Dimensity 8000 Series, consumers don’t have to compromise between affordability and premium experiences like flagship-grade memory or accelerated AI capabilities—they can have it all.

MediaTek points out that the chip’s APU 780 AI silicon supports large language models (LLM) with up to 10 billion parameters. The company claims 8x speed for transformer-based generative AI and 2x improvement in integer and floating point calculations. According to AI Benchmark v5, AI performance increases by 3.3 times, promising a substantial advancement in AI capabilities for mid-range mobile devices.

The Dimensity 8300 introduces support for LPDDR5X RAM at speeds up to 8,533 Mbps, a necessity for efficiently running LLMs. Manufactured on TSMC’s 2nd generation 4nm process, the chipset features an octa-core processor featuring four Arm Cortex-A715 cores and four Cortex-A510 cores built on Arm’s latest v9 processor architecture. This configuration results in 20% faster CPU performance and a maximum power efficiency gain of 30% compared to its predecessor.

Additionally, the Mali-G615 MC6 GPU upgrade in the Dimensity 8300 results in a 60% increase in performance and a 55% improvement in power efficiency. Budget phones with this chip could be a good choice for savvy gamers who watch their wallets.

Speaking of gaming, MediaTek’s new chipset features “adaptive gaming technology“, optimizing smartphone games with AI performance prediction. This not only reduces power consumption at maximum speeds, but also provides 24% faster scene switching. Short-form video creation benefits from this also, with 15% faster AR preview and 6% faster rendering compared to alternatives.

The Dimensity 8300 also brings camera improvements, supporting 4K/60fps HDR video (replacing its predecessor’s 4K/60fps SDR video), more power-efficient video recording, and AI functionality. -Color. And that’s not all, since AV1 decoding, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E and the ability to manage refresh rates of up to 120 Hz at WQHD+ resolutions or 180 Hz in FHD+ are among the features of the chipset.

MediaTek plans to launch the first phones equipped with the Dimensity 8300 before the end of the year. According to GSMChinaThe Redmi K70E, which is expected to debut later this month, will be among the first smartphones to feature the Ultra variant of the new Dimensity 8300.
