TSMC Plans A Third Fab In Japan For Creating 3nm Chips: Bloomberg،

TSMC, the company behind the Apple A17 Pro and M3 chipsets based on 3nm manufacturing technology, is planning a third manufacturing plant in Japan to meet the growing demand for advanced chips that are both powerful and efficient.

TSMC wants Japan to become global chip manufacturing hub

According to a Bloomberg report, TSMC plans to build a third manufacturing unit in Japan that would make 3nm chips, which could transform the “East Asian nation into a major global chip manufacturing hub.” The report cites TSMC’s supply chain partners, who have been told that the company is considering a third factory named “TSMC Fab-23 Phase 3” in Kumamoto.

The second Fab is in preparation

Currently, the chipmaker is building another manufacturing unit in Japan for less advanced chips. It has gathered investments from companies like Sony Group and Denso Corp., to make 12nm chips. Additionally, the company also plans to set up another 5nm chip manufacturing plant as early as 2025.

A third factory would bring in billions of dollars

As TSMC gets to manufacturing 3nm chips in Japan, it could be beneficial for the economy, mainly because many tech industry leaders, including Nvidia and Apple, rely on the company for its chips peak. The report mentions that the number of Japanese companies that need such chips is currently small, but in the near future the demand will increase due to technological advancements such as artificial general intelligence, autonomous driving, etc.

It is important to mention that TSMC is one of the largest chipmakers in the world. The 3nm manufacturing technology developed by the company is used in the most advanced technological equipment, including cloud servers, supercomputers and consumer devices, such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, etc.
