Reliance Jio to Unveil Affordable ‘Cloud Laptop’ in India – Anticipated Price Around Rs 15,000: Report،

In its relentless quest for innovation, telecom giant Reliance Jio has made substantial strides in the hardware space, already gaining a foothold with budget-friendly smartphones and laptops. After unveiling its second laptop, the JioBook (2023), in July at an eye-watering price of Rs. 9,999. 16,499, Jio is now aiming for further expansion. A recent report indicates the company’s ambitious plans to introduce a cloud laptop in the market, strategically priced around Rs. 9,999. 15,000.

This next addition to the Jio lineup is designed to revolutionize the conventional laptop landscape by harnessing the power of the Jio Cloud, a move aimed at mitigating high shipping costs. Expected to hit the Indian market in the coming months, Jio’s cloud laptop represents a compelling fusion of affordability and cutting-edge technology.

Jio Cloud Laptop: Details

According to a report published by The Economic Times on Saturday, discussions are underway between the Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom firm and leading manufacturers such as HP, Acer and Lenovo. The aim is to bring this laptop to the Indian market in the coming months.

According to a senior Jio official mentioned in the ET report, the laptop is considered a “dumb terminal”, in which all processing and storage functions would be handled by the Jio Cloud infrastructure. This innovative approach aims to minimize the need for expensive hardware, thereby reducing the overall cost of laptop ownership. It’s important to note, however, that a cloud-based computer requires a constant Internet connection to access storage, processing, and other features from the cloud, something a typical laptop can run locally.

The upcoming cloud laptop is currently in the trial phase, tested on an HP Chromebook, according to the report. Additionally, the cloud PC software should be accessible not only on the proposed cloud-based laptop but also on existing devices such as desktops or smart TVs, eliminating the need to purchase the device dedicated cloud.

In a similar vein, Jio entered the digital entertainment and Wi-Fi services space with the launch of AirFiber in September. This service provides access to over 550 digital TV channels and subscriptions to over 16 OTT applications. Designed for users with limited fiber internet access, Jio’s AirFiber offers 5G FWA (fixed wireless access) based internet, and it is currently available in 262 cities across India, with plans starting of Rs. 9,999. 599 per month.
