At $199, the Status between 3ANC wireless headphones enter a highly competitive market with the promise of advanced features and superior sound. However, a closer look reveals a mix of laudable efforts and significant shortcomings.

Draw attention

Headphone design is a double-edged sword. While their unique aesthetic in the Bone and Onyx variants is visually appealing, their bulk could be a deterrent, especially for those with smaller ears. However, with my larger ears I found them to be just fine and the included tips helped me find the perfect fit.

Not one, not two, but three pilots

At the heart of the Status Between 3ANC is the Hybrid Triple Driver system, which combines one dynamic driver with two balanced armature drivers. This configuration delivers a sound profile characterized by deep bass and detailed highs. The sound quality has power but lacks the nuance found in competing products from Sony and Apple. The accompanying app, compatible with iOS and Android, offers customizable EQ settings, which is a welcome feature.

The difficulties of the ANC

The headphones feature a -38dB hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC), which while impressive on paper, falls short of the performance provided by competitors like Sony and Bose. Transparency mode is a useful addition, however, allowing users to interact with their surroundings without removing the headphones.

Go long

One of the 3ANC’s most notable features is its battery life, offering eight hours of playback with ANC enabled and 12 hours without. The inclusion of a charging case, USB-C charging and wireless charging options add to the convenience. Bluetooth 5.2 and multipoint connectivity ensure a stable and versatile wireless connection.

The six beamforming microphones with environmental noise reduction (ENR) promise exceptional call quality, a claim that holds up for the most part.

A difficult market

Priced at $199, the Between 3ANC headphones sit in a competitive market segment. While they offer several premium features and a premium feel, their performance in ANC and sound quality may not fully justify the price, especially compared to alternatives like the AirPods Pro or Sony WF- 1000XM5.

Final verdict

The status between 3ANC wireless earbuds is a classic case of style over substance. While they may appeal to users who prioritize aesthetics and battery life, those looking for top-notch sound quality and effective noise cancellation will find them lacking. If the price drops (again), further separating them from the $200 competition, it would be much easier for me to recommend them.
